Magic has often been thought of as the art of making dreams come true; the art of realizing visions. Yet before we can bring birth to the vision, we have to see it.
Magic is an art
Of making your dreams come true
But you must see them
When have I felt magic, divinity, providence, or destiny at work in my life? What visions have I seen realized as if by magic or providence?
I have felt magic and divinity – God/Goddess, the Universe, or Source if you prefer – at work in my life often. The most astounding time was when I was driven at the last minute to go to a yoga class. So last minute, I was 5 minutes late. This class changed my life. It’s where I met Flora.
There are other times as well, big and small. Being driven to record Les Brown’s PBS specials when I had no idea who he was changed my life.
But there are other times, too. Things I missed or never saw. I have no doubt there have been many car accidents I completely missed by not being there because something drove me to leave early or a series of unusual events caused me to be late.
I remember one time I was at a toll booth asking the attendant a question. She couldn’t hear me and I had to ask three times. After moving on, about a mile down the road, I saw a car well ahead of me shifted four lanes rather abruptly. Nobody was hurt, but if the attendant had answered on the first try, I might have been right there.
I can’t think of visions I have sene realized. The visions I want to happen, I actively work towards. Well mostly, but that’s another story. Now along the way, providence has moved in and helped me at certain points. But I believe those things happen more often when you first put the work in yourself.
It’s like that old Futurama episode where Bender is hurtling through space and a society forms on his surface and worships him as God. He later meets God who gives him this advice about being God. “You have to use a light touch… When you do things right people won’t think you did anything at all.”
That’s how the Universe works. That’s magic.
